BIM COORDINATION & VDC

At Smith MEP, computerized detailing and coordination are the standard. We stand at the forefront of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), using 3-D CAD visualization software for pre-construction trade coordination and product fabrication for electrical, HVAC and plumbing projects. Through the use of 3-D modeling and clash detection software, we are able to reduce time in the field creating cost savings for the customer. Smith MEP can lead the coordination process and work with the general contractor and subcontractors to facilitate and manage coordination utilizing Navisworks software. We facilitate 3-D coordination meetings including the creation and management of Clash Detection reports. Coordination meetings can be held in our offices, on the job site or remotely. 

Smith MEP has decades of experience utilizing Autodesk Fabrication to accelerate our electrical, plumbing, sheet metal and piping fabrication. Applying Lean Construction principles, our 3-D capability allows significant prefabrication for “just-in-time” delivery.

Our recent experience with complex coordination projects includes Electrical, HVAC and Plumbing scopes within infrastructure improvements, industrial complexes, and GMP manufacturing facilities. Smith MEP brings knowledge and depth to any design and construction team providing a catalyst for successful implementation of Virtual Design and Construction.

FABRICATION

One of the most important factors in controlling cost and quality in the construction industry is to have state-of-the-art fabrication facilities, to employ highly trained workers to operate these facilities and to provide ongoing training to these workers.

Santa Maria Campus

To fully service our geographical areas of work, Smith MEP has a state-of-the-art fabrication facility at our Santa Maria location. This fabrication shop produces prefabricated sheet metal, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and process piping material. Our Santa Maria facility includes a modern 11,000-square-foot fabrication shop as well as a 23,500-square-foot office, warehouse, and tool crib. 

Newbury Park

We also have a 2,200-square-foot MEP warehouse and office in Newbury Park, CA.
